Krzysztof Dragan - Rethinking the Use of Spring: An Overview of Micronaut and Spark for Java Developers
Spring has become a leader in the world of web frameworks for Java. Tracing its origins back to 2003, it has won the hearts of Java developers by providing an understandable and easy-to-use abstraction over Java Enterprise Edition.
In 2023, Spring has more than 1,400,000 lines of code, 52,000+ commits, and more than 1300 active contributors. I think we can all agree that with such an amount of code and complexity, there is no chance to fully understand how everything works under the hood.
In my talk, I will try to raise a discussion on whether Spring is still the best option for Java developers. I will also present some alternative solutions, such as Micronaut and Spark Java. My findings will be based on developments made in my current company, Stepstone, and discussions performed across conferences in Poland.
