Topic: The Benefits of Testing Your Software on Real Devices - A Case Study
Abstract:
Real device testing is essential for software testing at scale; don’t you agree? Join me in exploring this approach, drawing insights from a successful project within the E-Commerce department at Ocado Shopping Platform. Our product comprises a native mobile app for Android and iOS, along with a web portal, all meticulously crafted to enhance the shopping experience for our end-customers.
Throughout the presentation, you will gain insights into how real devices can significantly enhance the quality, reliability, and performance of your software testing. We will explore the associated challenges and best practices of testing with real devices. Additionally, we will discuss how leveraging real devices aligns with achieving customer satisfaction and meeting business objectives. My aim is to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the reasons behind and methodologies for testing your software on real devices.
18:45 - 18:50
BREAK
18:50 - 19:20
Speaker: Michał Ostaszewski, Staff Software Engineer
Topic: Elevating Your Testing Strategy: Simplifying application development with API-Driven Tests
Abstract:
As our application undergoes evolution, we often have to change and create new unit tests, even when the behavior of the application remains the same. This process is inherently tedious and time-consuming, often serving as a deterrent to high-level refactoring.
In this talk, I will demonstrate an alternative API-oriented test methodology. This approach enables tests to offer a holistic perspective on the application's behavior, providing a sense of assurance and security. By embracing this paradigm shift, we can transform testing from being perceived as a burdensome task triggered by code changes into a valuable tool that enhances our understanding of the entire application.
19:20 - 19:25
BREAK
19:25 - 19:55
Speaker: Kinga Witko and Daria Dobrzańska, founders of Tu się Testuje
Topic: "Crtl+shift+I - make IT accessible"
Abstract:
Accessibility is what companies should focus on in all software applications – no matter if they are web, mobile, or desktop. Digital products should be accessible to everyone, especially to people with mental or physical disabilities, because people are not supposed to be limited by the software.
There are over 1 billion people with disabilities in the world, who might be the users of your application – either web or mobile. It depends on your testing and development, if they would feel comfortable with the app or not.
20:00 - 22:00
Networking over pizza and beer ;)
[in-person event]
We’re excited to invite you to our next techBytes meetup @Ocado Technology. This time, we will explore the dynamic realm of software testing, from real device testing to API-driven approaches and testing website accessibility.
Join us and discover how real device testing elevates software reliability, learn to simplify application development through API-driven tests, and uncover the essential principles of making IT accessible to all.
Main organizational information:
- We’ll start at 18:00 (6:00 P.M.) at our office, located on Szewska 8 Street (Wrocław Old Town). The entrance to the building is next to Green Caffè Nero.
